A 3D map travel log for the round-the-world voyage of the sailboat Pesk Ebrel
Tintin and Charlotte set sail from Arzal in September 2026 for a five-year round-the-world voyage aboard Pesk Ebrel, a Feeling 416. They wanted a travel log that would not be just another blog: a globe on which you follow the boat's route day after day, where every story, gallery or video sits at the exact place it was lived. The site also had to update itself almost on its own from the boat, with limited connectivity.
Project
Design and development of a bespoke 3D map built with CesiumJS and powered by Kirby CMS. The boat's track is fed automatically by a satellite GPS beacon, then cleaned and compiled on the server. Every post published in the panel is placed on the track automatically from its date and time, with an optional manual position for an anchorage or a trip ashore.
When a post is open, an animated particle field shows the wind blowing around the boat at that moment, based on cached Open-Meteo historical data. A timeline, a day and nautical mile counter, photo galleries and videos complete the experience.
